In a flipped classroom, students watch their professors' lectures online before class, while spending class time working on hands-on, "real world" problems. The potential of the model has many educators thrilled it could be the end of vast lecture halls, students falling asleep and boring, monotone professors. But four professors at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif. who are studying the effectiveness of a flipped classroom have bad news for advocates of the trend: it might not make any difference.

Gandhi's remarks provoked BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to demand he either name the youths or apologise for degrading a community. Modi also asked how an intelligence officer was briefing Rahul, just an MP. "Some people just want to criticise him for the sake of criticism," said Dikshit. Q: Is the book aimed at soccer fans or business managers? A: It's pitched at both. It is not an expose, it is not looking to uncover deep, dark secrets of managers. It's looking to give managers an opportunity to express their deep philosophy and practice of leadership. It's fascinating to football fans because actually what is it that these great managers are thinking about when they are leading their teams?

5-Create healthy competition with yourself by using perceived failure to motivate you to higher level. Trust the process of learning from failure by embracing the unknown, the journey and the challenges along the way. Lessons you learn in school, relationships, or career, can transfer into other areas of your life and even bring a new enriched perspective you never even had! Forget the shame that comes with failure -- you are human and everyone fails at something. Occasionally, we may fail many times in the same area before improving and getting back on track. Confession: I've made many mistakes and failed many times in my life, and I'm even a recovering Perfectionist!

If he/she is allowed to explore that quality, it will help in better learning," says consulting psychiatrist Dr Anjali Chhabria. She says there are many people who solve problems by feeling things, like the abacus or by doing things, like the local grocer, who is good at maths just because he's been doing it for long. Explains clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Narendra Kinger, "When children read, the visual cortex lights up and when they say it aloud, it's the mortar part of the cortex is stimulated. It depends on the child's concentration as to what he / she is better at. If a child is a visual learner, it talking out loud may not help him, while if he is an auditory learner it would. That does not mean that every child voices out each problem loudly in a class." Educationists too share a similar opinion.

Sign Up for MedicineNet Newsletters! THURSDAY, Oct. 25 (HealthDay News) -- Learning a new language over a short period of time appears to make the brain grow, new research suggests. The new study included young recruits at the Swedish Armed Forces Interpreter Academy who went from having no knowledge of a new language to speaking it fluently within 13 months. The recruits studied at a furious pace: from morning to evening, weekdays and weekends. The recruits were compared to medicine and cognitive science students at a university (the "control" group), who also studied hard, but weren't learning a new language.
